Default Languages in names

Here, I'm calling to those who use other language than english for their name.
Because I sometime (read alway) use Jap in my name, most of the time using full phrases.

So first of all, when you do, are you asked what your name means?

And, I've noticed a lot of people use jap-inspired name, a reasonable amount use real words(most of the time only as a name). But are there people who use other languages for their names?

Its a game. Ppl can use any name they want. I'm tempted to ask "Why do you care?" but it might seem like i'm being mean.

I hate people who decide to throw in Japanese characters into their name--it means I can't type their name to invite them, and that's a pain.

There's no real reason to use them on the American server--just Romanji-ize it, it's the same goddamn thing.

I don't have japanese names for my characters but I do get asked where I'm from sometimes. Apparently the name for my char is a reason to think that I'm Frensh. I don't even understand a word Frensh. Non non!

With few exceptions, my characters' names mean something. A few examples:

Kaia Tosia is Greek meaning (approximately) "Earth Reaper" or Reaper of the Earth, fitting for a Dervish, I thought. Her 'sister' Astrea Tosia (channeling Ritualist) means Star Reaper. I recently found out that in Finnish Tosia translates roughly to "true truth".

My necro family of girls are all last name Artaith - Welsh for torment.

Mesmers are all from the Awel family - Welsh for breeze.

My Canthan ele is Azar Minau - her name uses the Oriental placement (last name first), so her first name is actually Minau. Persian for Heavenly Scarlet (Azar = scarlet). She plays with fire a lot .

Tyrian ele Teva Daracha and Tyrian Smiter Tavish Darach - twins, both names mean "twin of the oak", Scottish.

Ceit nic Cailleach, monk necro - Scottish, "Pure Daughter of the Cailleach" (Hag Goddess in the Scots pantheon of gods) Several people have asked if I'm Irish or Scots with this name. And I am American of Scots descent, so *shrugs*.

Character names are as individualistic as the player. I've seen plenty whose names are ..... well, I wonder how many 10 year olds play GW?

In some areas in Japan, it is also wrong to call them a Japanese person, they sometimes take offense to it, but onto the topic

It has already been said in this thread before, it is a game and people can and will do what they want, I am currently living in Japan and use the American Server...

Just because I live in Japan, does that mean I should make characters with Kanji???

Wait -is it possible to even name your character with non-English characters on American servers? Coz that's what I'm getting from this thread

Kakumei is wrong.

You cannot use any characters other than the roman alphabet on both euro and us servers.

Oh, and it's FrenCh, not Frensh.

Huh. Guess I must spend too much time in International districts. My point remains, though it's not as prevalent as I made it out to be.

Mean or not i'll answer anyway. I care because I like to look at other people's name (probably because I put a lot of work in my own names). I guess I developed an interest in languages. And because i'm learning japanese I notice every japanese names, probably more names than "normal" people, (As in : I notice words that aren't obvious names).

Sorry, it's just the english prononciation bugs me every time I hear it, though the french one is much worse.

I rather like the Bottians and how they named themself. rghubvulfb09 or fdhbauv56, very hard to say in english but for the bots those are very beautiful words spoken daily.

I use 2 syllable Chinese phrases as the 2nd name of my Canthan characters.

Romanized of course.

The only problem with asian names is 1) you can't type their name in to invite them into a party 2) you can't ask 'em to do something and thus have to refer to them as "number 4" or "hey, you ele guy".

To invite: Click name from chat, highlight from the whisper window, control+C, click the blank space on the party box, control+V.

My Ranger Character is my second version of the character (I deleted the 1st), so he's Quaker #2. So, I named him Quaker Tu. "Tu" is also what is known in french as a "familiar" form of You (vous). I used to get Whispers in french from people inviting me to join Quebec based Guilds.

"Je regret, ne parle pas Francais.", but...

"I am Canadian!" and proud of it.

P.s. To elaborate on what Chthon said above - it's usually easiest, even with plain English names to use that technique to invite people. Just click on their name in the Chat window. That will put their name into the Whisper box. Highlight the name in whisper (usually, just clicking on it will do) and hit Ctrl-C, which is the normal Windows keyboard shortcut for "copy". Then click on the empty spot in the Party box and hit Ctrl-V, the Windows "paste" shortcut, et viola! (You should also be able to then use Ctrl-V to paste the name into the Chat box too - not verified however.)

Some people seem to not have understood something :

When I say I use japanese names, they are, of course, Romanjized.
